A definition of and linguistic support for partial quiescence

چکیده
Note to editor and reviewers: This paper is based on our earlier paper (Reference [1]), which appeared in the Euro-Par 2006 conference. The present paper extends that earlier paper with additional details about our overall approach, more examples, further experimental results, and additional discussion. SUMMARY The global quiescence of a distributed computation (or distributed termination detection) is an important problem. Some concurrent programming languages and systems provide global quiescence detection as a built-in feature so that programmers do not need to write special synchronization code to detect quiescence. This paper introduces partial quiescence (PQ), which generalizes quiescence detection to a specified part of a distributed computation. Partial quiescence is useful, for example, when two independent concurrent computations that both rely on global quiescence need to be combined into a single program. The paper describes how we have designed and implemented a PQ mechanism within an experimental version of the JR concurrent programming language, and have gained experience with several representative applications. Our early results are promising qualitatively and quantitatively.

متن کاملNew Applications on Linguistic Mathematical Structures and Stability Analysis of Linguistic Fuzzy Models
In this paper some algebraic structures for linguistic fuzzy models are defined for the first time. By definition linguistic fuzzy norm, stability of these systems can be considered. Two methods (normed-based & graphical-based) for stability analysis of linguist fuzzy systems will be presented. At the follow a new simple method for linguistic fuzzy numbers calculations is defined. At the end tw...
متن کاملCross-Linguistic Transfer Revisited: The Case of English and Persian
The present study sought to investigate the evidence for cross-linguistic transfer in a partial English immersion and non-immersion educational setting. To this end, a total of 145 first, third and fifth graders in a partial English immersion program and 95 students from the same grade levels in a non-immersion program were chosen. Six different English and Persian tests were administered: the ...
متن کاملGender-preferential Linguistic Elements in Applied Linguistics Research Papers: Partial Evaluation of a Model of Gendered Language
This article intended to investigate whether the gender-preferential linguistic elements found by Argomon, Koppel, Fine and Shimoni (2003) show the same gender-linked frequencies in applied linguistics research papers written by non-native speakers of English. In so doing, a sample of 32 articles from different journals was collected and the proportion of the targeted features to the whole numb...
متن کاملForm-based and Content-oriented Noun Definition in Persian Speaking Children With Cochlear Implant in Compare With Their Normal Peers
Objective One way to examine a child's ability to think about language is by word definition. Word definition is a meta-linguistic skill representing the aspect of the lexical knowledge of a person about the nature and function of language. The success of a person in defining the word is indicative of the fact that he is aware of the use of language as a symbolic system and a tool for transferr...
